Investing in the Minds That Will Build Talensi
As a professional with a teaching background, the DCE has made education his top priority. And for good reason: BECE performance in the district has historically been concerning, with less than 50% of candidates able to make it to Senior High School. High dropout rates — driven by small-scale mining, poverty and cultural factors, especially for the girl-child — compound the problem.
Many communities also suffer from weak infrastructure, inadequate school buildings and furniture. Without desks, classrooms and trained teachers, even the most determined student is held back.
The 2000+ Desks Commitment
School furniture has become a priority area. Since assuming office, the DCE is committed to providing over 2000 pieces of dual desks every year as part of the "1 million per constituency" projects — efforts that will continue throughout his tenure.
Key Interventions
- Infrastructure: Rehabilitating existing schools and constructing new classroom blocks across the district, including new KG blocks through the SOCO project.
- Furniture: Supplying 2000+ dual desks to schools annually.
- Teaching & Learning: Teacher motivation, capacity-building workshops and effective supervision.
- Child Protection: Reducing if not eliminating the participation of school-age children in small-scale gold mining, with continued public education.
The District's Education Landscape
The district operates 214 educational institutions — 149 public and 65 private — spread across 10 circuits, with 708 trained teachers representing 90.65% of the workforce. This strong base of trained educators, matched with improved infrastructure, is the key to lifting BECE performance.
